The impacts of the “jabutis” in the offshore wind farm bill go far beyond the electric sector. In a statement to BP Money, Ivana Cota, coordinator of the infrastructure area at Ciari Moreira Advogados, analyzed how these measures can compromise Brazil’s credibility in the energy transition.
According to Ivana, the inclusion of provisions that favor polluting sources, such as the extension of coal power plant contracts, contradicts environmental commitments and may deter investments aligned with the Paris Agreement. Additionally, the expert warned of the risks of the project being seen as “greenwashing,” by masking incentives for fossil fuels under the justification of expanding offshore wind farms.
