The counting of business days for salary payment in March has caused doubts due to Carnival, but labor legislation provides clear guidelines. Lawyer Sérgio Barbosa, partner at Ciari Moreira Advogados and head of the Labor Law area, explained to ISTOÉ Dinheiro how this rule works and how technology influences deadlines.
According to Sérgio, Saturday is considered a business day for labor purposes, and the count starts on March 1st. Thus, in places where there is no holiday on Ash Wednesday, the 5th business day will be on March 6th. Even where there is a holiday, payment must be made by Saturday, the 8th. He also highlighted that with Pix, the employer can guarantee the deposit within the deadline without depending on bank operations.
